  • Q.1 Why do you call your digital books Mimic Books?
Because we realise that a digital book will never be the real thing. But that doesn’t stop us from mimicking the real book in order to get tech savvy children in the 21st century hooked onto fun reading. Mimic Books use the original artwork and text from the real books and replicates the page turning effect of a real book.

Q.2 Why do I need Mimic Books?
Because it inspires children turned off to reading to turn on.
Big books have been used in shared reading for years. They are costly, cumbersome, can only have one teacher using them at a time; become tatty very quickly and are limited in the number of titles that ever make it as big books. Mimic books do not have any of these disadvantages.

We believe that if a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn. Children who need to be inspired to read through the use of ICT will be inspired to do so by mimic books.

Mimic Books can be viewed on your whiteboard, which makes them bigger and more visible than a traditional big book, perfect for shared reading in the 21st century classroom! You can also adjust the colour of the text to make it more accessible for children with visual impairments. There is no need to search anywhere else for big books online!

Q.4 I’ve already got plenty of big books in my school, why would I want a mimic book?
Mimic books will never replace a real book but think about how expensive big books are, how cumbersome they are to hold, how difficult it can be to find the one you want because another teacher has just pipped you to the post. This is where Mimic Books comes and takes over. It helps solve these problems and offers variety to your current shared reading provision in school.

Mimic Books can be viewed on your whiteboard, which makes them bigger and more visible than a traditional big book, perfect for shared reading in the 21st century classroom! Q.5 What makes you different to other digital texts and CD ROMS?
Existing digital books unfortunately do not look like real books, they often have poor art work, if at all and the language is basic. Teachers are used to choosing the very best in books and we believe that books on whiteboards should meet up to the same standards readers expect from children’s books.

CD ROMs can also be expensive, often need a multiuse license at an extra cost, don’t always get installed in schools and can get damaged.

With Mimic Books, you choose the package that you want and when you want it. You can buy 12 months subscription for as many packages as you like. Mimic Books are more economical than buying CD ROMs or big books. Take a look at our prices page for the latest prices and offers.

Q.6 Why should I pay for Mimic Books when there are other free resources available online?
As the old adage goes, 'you get what you pay for!'. If you get something for free, there's normally a reason why it's free… We ensure that we have the best books for your primary classroom and ones which are ideal for shared reading. We have award winning books from the best publishers in the world. You won't find them anywhere else on the Internet.

Quite simply, there is nobody else out there doing what we are. We ensure that a Mimic Book retains the appearance of its original printed book. If illustrations are painted in watercolour, then you too will be able to see the brush strokes in our actual Mimic Book. How many free electronic books online are there where you can see the brush strokes of the illustrations? Our aim is to bridge the divide between children’s digital and traditional reading.
